Asking for a rating from non-tippers
r/doordashHey all, I just got started with DoorDash (not having done deliveries before) and I’m getting a hang of the subtleties. In one of my first deliveries I forgot to hand a can of soda to a customer who rated me poorly and brought my rating score down, I want to bring it back up.
I was thinking about a small nudge to non-tippers with this phrase: “If you liked my service, the best tip is a positive rating”. What do you think, is it too daring? Would it be frowned upon by DoorDash? The alternative sounds too generic to me (“thank you for rating my service, I appreciate it”).
What do you think?

I would not do this. First, non-tippers are the ones mostly likely to give you a bad rating. And second, if one reported you, it would look like you were asking for a tip. Yes, maybe that’s counter-intuitive, you would think that non-tippers feel just a bit guilty and would respond positively to a request for a good rating instead, but sadly it doesn’t work that way.
If you just give good service then your ratings should be fine over the long term.
I used to watch my ratings vs. deliveries to see how long it took for a less-than-five-star rating to drop off, and if I recall correctly the stat was somewhere between 10% and 20% of customers leave a rating. So it might take you 500 to 1000 deliveries to get to 100 ratings. After that your score will just be a rolling average of the last 100 ratings, and if you’re giving good service your score will be excellent.
Thanks for your advice I appreciate it! If a rating is worth nothing (given good enough service), then asking for it is a waste of time.
Thank you for your patience with a n00b; and to others saying I was stupid for even thinking about this, jeez you are part of the problem, there’s always a human who thinks and feels and is struggling to make ends meet. Non-tippers and hostile redditor-dashers belong to the same category in my book. Have a nice day.

U wasted your time and gas looking for a rating?
Jeez you are so unkind, I’d rather have a non-tipper than you over for dinner.
It also makes me think DoorDash works different in Canada than in the States. A usual order for me is $4 DoorDash and $1-2 as a tip, distance is 2-3Km which I bike. I usually don’t mind no tip unless it’s a longer distance.

You can expect a wave of low ratings!
What about you do a better job and the ratings should follow!
I don’t get it, why are people here so salty?
