u/snoopyzanus:

In a healthy relationship, you could just say “I feel like steak today” and that would be it.

You’ve already gone drastically wrong when you’ve gotten to the point in a relationship where you feel you have to tip-toe around on eggshells to avoid her raging at you over some trivial issue.

Most women aren’t like this at the start of relationships. They gradually become like that when the man fails to set boundaries of acceptable behavior (which most women already know to do with men).

An enabling reaction just reinforces the negative behavior so that it escalates over time. This eventually creates the context where the woman feels free to blow her top over some trivial issue, because she knows the man’s reaction will just be to frantically try to find some way to placate her, to avoid her anger or her withholding sex/affection.

By nipping behavior like that in the bud in the early stages of the relationship — while it’s just her putting out feelers to gauge your reaction — and maintaining your boundaries consistently afterward, you never get to that point. […]

12 years later I understand what you meant. Girlfriend depicted in the rage comic is not that girlfriend (events happened as depicted, sans flashback, but both of us were on the joke, she knows I love meat).

However later on I dated a girl who would often get angry and I would scramble to placate her mood. Indeed, as you stated, this escalated to the point where she would blow her top over some trivial issue. It’s like caving in to the tantrums of a child, it will only get worse. She would threaten to dump me until I finally had enough and I dumped her.

Anyways, a tip of the hat and reply 12 years later.
