What do you think about gifting? At our first stop we went a bit overboard and spent about $40 on beer/wine for our hosts. After that at other places we did things like clean and make/buy dinner. Since our trip, we’ve hosted about 8 people. A couple have given us things (an extra concert ticket, a box of chocolates) but most did nothing.

How do you feel about this? Do you think people should do something as a show of gratitude, or is thank you enough?

I’ve hosted a bunch of times, gifts (at least for me) were completely unnecesary, but appreciated.
