DO NOT DRINK AGUA FRESCA

Rule of thumb in foreign travel: If it’s a cold drink that’s not from a bottle, don’t drink it. Your system won’t be used to it and there is a high chance of getting sick. Can’t stress this enough.

In my teens I used to work for a bottled water company, agua fresca sellers in the markets bought dozens of “garrafones” (20 liter bottles) per day, and markets are probably the least hygenic places in Mexico.

Except for very rural places, I doubt you would ever be served tap water in Mexico.
