I eat quite healthy stuff, we lean towards a Mediterranean diet, but eat plenty of vegetables, olive oil, hummus, whole wheat grains including rice (rice mixed because of the kids). Tend to eat lots of cheese when I snack which is bad. I hate peanut butter but I like nuts, I thought they were very fat. Can eat granola, love cranberries. Have cut on red meat a lot in the last year, eat chicken, pork sometimes fish but less (again because of the kids). Eat frozen stuff from Trader Joe’s because we like the quality, no junk food to speak of, have been to a Mc Donald maybe once in a year because I was on the road. Can do Five Guys if the occasion arises though.

Drop the butter and jam. You don’t need to start counting calories, but you need to be concious of how much each meal item is counting towards your daily intake, and try to maximize the food you eat vs. how filling it is.

I’ve found http://www.nutritiondata.com/ to be very helful in this aspect. Also, don’t be afraid of meat, especially turkey and seafood. Just don’t eat the fat/skin. Lean meat is very filling, delicious and packs a good calorie return on consumption.
